Talia’s Planet Book Launch Eve! #Excited #YASF

June 12, 2018

Tomorrow, Talia’s Planet, the fifth book in the YA SF Recycling Humanity series will be launched in E-book and paperback on Amazon! I actually saw that the paperback is ready today to purchase today – but the pre-order is still up tonight for the E-book.

It’s kind of like the night before Christmas. I’m so excited for Talia’s Planet to launch tomorrow. And don’t forget – there’s a bonus at the end of the book. I have included the first chapter of my next series as a teaser for the new YA SF Delta Fringe series launch in August!

As always I’m so grateful for all my readers and supporters along this wonderful writing journey. I love writing and couldn’t see myself doing life without my fictional characters, or sharing them with all of you.

The image here is the sneak peek of the back of the new bookmarks I’ve ordered.

Every Day is a New Adventure!

Read. Write. Travel. Create.

Part of this is tattooed on my arm – Read. Write. Create! Along with a book and quill pen – this was my first tattoo. I will need to add travel into another tattoo now that I’ve become addicted to traveling and learning about other communities, states, countries. If I can’t visit the stars in my lifetime, I want to visit as many states in the US and countries in the world as I can. I have been so inspired by getting out of my comfort zone.

Don’t forget to join my newsletter for updates on new book releases, new book picks from other authors, and geeky space news that I’ve discovered!

Summer Book Releases and Book Signings

June 10, 2018

It’s just a few days until the last book in my Recycling Humanity series, Talia’s Planet comes out! I’ve reviewed and accepted the print proof and it’s ready to go. I have a few ads that will go out for Midpoint Station so everyone can read that one first. For Talia’s launch, Midpoint Station ebook will be available for 99 cents June 13-15!

You can also still pre-order Talia’s Planet and have it automatically delivered to your kindle on Wednesday.

On top of finishing the Recycling Humanity series, I’ve been writing a non-fiction creative writing book for young adults, and starting a new YA SF series. I hope to debut these new books in August when I have several book signings set up.

On Saturday August 18, 2018 downtown Boise during the Saturday market at Rediscovered bookstore I will be signing my books and having a blast talking to all the customers stopping in! So come down and say hi! I will be there 11 am to 2 pm. It will be fun and crazy – especially with all that construction downtown. Haha

Then I will also have a booth at the Boise Comic Arts Festival (formerly the Library Comic Con) – which will now be held at the amazing JUMP center! Come to the 6th floor of the JUMP building August 25th or 26thto see me and buy some books! Check out their Facebook page.

I’ll have these events posted on my Facebook page soon, so make sure to go over there and like my page. You can also sign up for my newsletter from that page or from my website!

Here’s to an amazing, fun, and crazy summer!

Idea that Sparked my YA SF Recycling Humanity Series is now Real Science!

June 9, 2018

You can pre-order Talia’s Planet, book 5 in the series here! It comes out June 13, 2018.

In 2012 when I first decided to start writing a novel for the NaNoWriMo contest, I was woken up in the middle of the night with the idea that became the backstory for my Recycling Humanity series. In the Recycling Humanity universe the Earth has been destroyed by overpopulation and destruction of the environment. A scientist came up with a bacteria to eat up all the plastics that were overfilling the garbage dumps, oceans, and cities. But his bacteria got out of control and destroyed everything man-made and natural, so all of civilization came crashing down as it ate through buildings, transportation, food storage, vegetation, and eventually everyone on Earth was left with a bare, dead Earth.

Thankfully, in the Recycling Humanity universe humans had already mastered living in space, so what was left of humanity abandoned their dying Earth and built generational space habits to live in. This is where Recycling Humanity, book 1 starts.

This past April scientists in Japan discovered a mutant enzyme in a waste dump that actually eats plastic! Previously we’ve known that certain waxworm caterpillars were able to eat through certain plastics, but this new discovery could help our current problem with waste plastics.

As long as it doesn’t mutate too much like in my novels! 🙂 I love when science fiction ideas eventually turn into reality.

Some of the SF ideas in classic science fiction haven’t had such success. It was believed by the 2000’s we’d have flying cars like the Jetsons cartoon, but we don’t. Not yet. And we don’t have food replicators like on the Enterprise, but we do have 3D printers. Our tech revolution has had a lot of successes in the last fifty years, just not as many advances as SF authors predicted.

I think this is why I love science fiction so much. SF stories go outside of our normal lives and existence and show us what could be possible. SF gives us hope for a better life, and it gives scientists and entrepreneurs and inventors ideas to strive for and problems to solve.

Talia’s Planet book launch – T minus 9 Days!

Even after 5 books it’s hard launching this one out into the world. Each of theRecycling Humanity books has personal meaning for me. I know some authors say we shouldn’t treat our books like our babies – it makes it too personal for us and we are too sensitive to criticism. This can be true.

But that’s not what I mean by these books have personal meaning to me. I was once interviewed for a magazine article and they asked me if I put any part of myself into these books. I didn’t hesitate when I answered yes. All authors put some part of themselves into their books – either their experiences, personal traits, their wishes and dreams, or even their fears. I think I have a bit of each scattered throughout the Recycling Humanity series.

The first book that started all this, Recycling Humanity, will always mean a lot to me because it showed me I could write a whole novel. For this one I did draw some characteristics from family members. And my nephew’s middle name. *Thanks Vince!*

Starlight Max came from working with juveniles incarcerated at the state corrections department. Although I use real life experiences and ideas for my books, I then develop them into what it would like in my Sci-fi world.

Biolab Zeg came from research I had done on Biosphere 2 in Arizona. I grew up believing that experiment would get us living in space before I was out of college. And now we have all sorts of experiments happening on the United Space Station that gives me chills every time I watch videos of the amazing astronauts up there.

Midpoint Station and Talia’s Planet came after a close call with my eyesight. One of the side effects of my Lupus meds are blindness. After a not-so-good eye appointment I decided to research my options. I work downtown in our state’s capital and my office is a few blocks away from the main office for the Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Director of that office often stops by my office to talk to our staff. I asked for a few minutes of his time and asked him many questions that not only made me feel better about my situation, but helped develop Talia’s abilities and confidence.

The other theme that weaves throughout the Recycling Humanity series is mental illnesses and disabilities of different kinds – seen and unseen. Many of these I’ve experienced first hand through my own battle with Lupus, or family members with physical and mental disabilities. I’ve also learned a lot working with the social workers in my job.

So, yes these books will always be personal in some small way. And I’m sure my future ones will too. But I put my books out there to entertain, so I hope all my readers enjoy my adventures!

And I hope this small peek behind the scenes of my Recycling Humanity series inspires everyone reading this to write everyday! You never know where that out-of-the-blue idea will take you!
