Talking about Creativity Over Perfection on the Born to Write Podcast!

Heather Lee Dyer on the Born to Write Podcast with Azul Terronez

An amazing opportunity – a podcast interview with book coach Azul Terronez!

I was working on my second YA SF series when I decided to write a nonfiction book.

It wasn’t planned and in fact I had mentioned to one of my good friends that I would “never” write a nonfiction book. I didn’t think I had anything to offer. What would I write about? What advice or value could I offer other writers?

Then I heard Azul Terronez on The Front Row Factor podcast with Jon Vroman. As I’ve mentioned before I LOVE podcasts! This is one of many I listen to.

Azul talked about his years of teaching and how creativity isn’t a priority in most schools. Most curriculums emphasize spelling and grammar and basically teach to the standardized tests. Azul, however, found ways to focus more on the creative side of writing in his classrooms. This resonated with some of the good and bad experiences I had in school with my creative writing and teachers that tried to either enlighten or dampen my creative freedom.

He also discussed how writing a book can encourage and help others. Since I was already mentoring a few middle grade and high school classes in creativity writing, it occurred to me as Azul spoke that this could be another way for me to reach others who want to write a book. I took Azul up on his invitation for a free Skype book coaching session and instantly I felt a bond with him. I was later chosen to receive a scholarship to his Authors Writing Academy. I was so overjoyed and humbled to have such an amazing opportunity!

Writing the book!

This past year I have worked with Azul to write Creativity Over Perfection: The World Needs Your Book! I learned so much from Azul and from the actual writing of this book. I grew not only as a writer, but I was able to finally process some of the events that happened during my childhood. This book is not only motivation and encouragement for everyone to write that book in their heart, but a look into how I became a writer and how I overcame many obstacles to get to where I am today.

Pick up a copy of my book today and listen to the podcast for behind the scenes details of how and why I wrote it.

Keep writing, keep reading! And if you want the first sneak peeks of my upcoming book covers and news of speaking events, join my email list here on my website where it says: SIGN UP HERE FOR NEW ADVENTURES AND UPDATES!

Station Coroner, Book 1 of My New Series is Here!

Just a quick note to all my super awesome readers about my newest book launch!!!

I’m so excited that it’s here! This book was a lot of fun to write and I had a (morbidly) awesome time writing it. And don’t worry – it’s still great for all audiences!

Coroner Station, Book 1 of my new Delta Fringe Series is here! Today it’s available as an e-book, to be shortly followed by paperback!

Here’s the back cover description:

“I don’t mind working with the dead, it’s the live ones that I’m afraid of.”

Forced to leave her peaceful home on Mars Colony after the death of her mother, seventeen-year-old Brenna Teves moves to Delta Station at the outer edge of the galaxy to live and work with her father who is the station’s coroner.

In order to survive and find her place in this fringe community of hardy explorers, space pirates, and classmates that have nicknamed her la muerta – the dead girl, Bren must overcome her anxieties and rely on strengths she didn’t realize she had.

As the coroner’s daughter Bren finds herself investigating the disappearance of crew members from a science ship found abandoned in the Fringe, only to discover a far more deadly secret. A secret that not only threatens all the lives on Delta Station, but everyone living near the Fringe.

Station Coroner is the first book of the YA science fiction Delta Fringe Series that features interstellar adventure, mystery, a bit of romance, and a heroine in an unusual career.

Get your copy today on Amazon!

Look for the Delta Fringe book 2 to be released in September 2018!
